Transportation Engineering Systems Faculty Position

The University of Central Florida is dedicated to increase the prominence of its Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering Department (CECE). To that end, the goal is to build on the excellent track record of the transportation engineering group toward establishing a world-class research and education entity. Applications are invited for a tenure-track faculty position in the Civil Engineering program (specifically Transportation Engineering Systems). The targeted rank of the successful candidate is at the assistant professor level, however special consideration will be given to associate professor candidates who have a superb track record of sponsored research and scholarly publications. The position will begin in August 2016.

Candidates with expertise in Transportation Systems Engineering including but not limited to one or more of the following areas: freight transportation, intermodal transportation, multi-modal and transit, transportation networks, traveler behavior and demand modeling, traffic safety and operations, traffic engineering and simulation, and ITS;

Candidates with multi-disciplinary background working in potential growth areas like connected vehicles, naturalistic driving, large-scale data processing, sustainable transportation, and drivers’ behavior and human factors;

Applicants who have either demonstrated or shown a clear potential for creative and independent research that would lead to strong extramurally-funded research and national/international recognition;

Possess a Professional Engineering (PE) license, or be able and willing to become licensed.

The CECE department houses the Center for Advanced Transportation Systems Simulation (CATSS). This center was established in 1998 and over the last seventeen years has attracted more than $25 million in sponsored research related to traffic operations, traffic safety, human centered simulation, and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) deployments. CATSS is a member of four University Transportation Centers’ consortiums that include the National Center for Transportation Systems Productivity and Management (NCTSPM) at Georgia Tech, the Southeastern Transportation Center (STC) at the University of Tennessee, the SaferSim Center at the University of Iowa, and the Electric Vehicle Transportation Center (EVTC) of the Institute for Simulation and Training at UCF. The CECE department faculty maintains diverse, active, and successful research programs. Learn more about the CECE department at http://www.cece.ucf.edu.

Located in the Orlando Metropolitan area, UCF has over 60,000 students enrolled. The Fall 2014 freshmen class had an average high school weighted GPA of 4.3 and SAT score of 1256. UCF enrolls 275 National Merit Scholars, and Engineering is one of the top five majors at UCF with the college offering B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in civil engineering. The undergraduate degree is ABET-accredited. We encourage you to learn more about UCF at http://www.ucf.edu/ and the College of Engineering and Computer Science at http://www.cecs.ucf.edu.
