CHAIR IN TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS STUDIES – INSTITUTE OF TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS STUDIES, THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY BUSINESS SCHOOL

The University of Sydney is Australia’s premier University with an outstanding global reputation for academic and research excellence, and employs over 7,500 permanent staff supporting over 49,000 students. The Business School at the University of Sydney invites applications for a Chair in any area of relevance to the Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies (ITLS) within the Business School.

Although we have a broad view of areas of relevance, we are especially interested in individuals with expertise in network and/or choice modelling and analysis, preferably (but not necessarily) in the

areas of transport, logistics and/or supply chain management.

As Chair, you will:

  • bring the skills and experience needed to build and promote, through research and teaching, ITLS’s strengths in an area suited to your expertise
  • play an important role in attracting and supervising PhD students
  • engage in funded research for ITLS
  • provide leadership and offer lectures in the wider field of transport and logistics at the graduate level and in executive courses, and
  • develop an effective team of scholars in transport and logistics studies.

The successful applicant will:

  • have a PhD relevant to transport and logistics studies (which can include a strong background in cognate disciplines such as economics, econometrics, applied mathematics, geography and engineering)
  • have a strong scholarly research record and/or potential to address managerial and policy issues
  • demonstrate capability in specific analytical methods. Although we are particularly interested in encouraging applicants in the areas of network and/or choice, this should not discourage applicants in other relevant fields from applying
  • have experience in applied research, together with a record of working closely with industry and government in the relevant fields.

The position is a full time, continuing appointment subject to the completion of a satisfactory probationary period for new appointees.

A salary package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position will be negotiated.

Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees.

If you are interested in this position I invite you to contact Professor David Hensher, Director ITLS, by email at david.hensher@sydney.edu.au
