Future Cities Research Centre at Trinity College Dublin is seeking two Post-Doctorate Researchers to work with Prof. Ivana Dusparic (Computer Science) and Prof. Federico Cugurullo (Urban Geography) on an interdisciplinary project SURPASS: how shared autonomous cars will transform cities.
The project will investigate Impact of Intelligent Autonomous Car Sharing on Urban Traffic and City Design.
Postdoc 1:
This position is meant to cover the Computer Science/Intelligent Mobility part of the project. More specifically, the successful candidate will focus on:
(a) research into intelligent/learning-based autonomous car-sharing algorithms,
(b) simulation of autonomous car-sharing in cities, and
(c) impact of autonomous car-sharing on traffic conditions and urban space.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Computer Science or a related area and have:
• Excellent research skills in intelligent mobility, intelligent algorithms, multi-agent systems, large-scale optimisation
• Excellent software development skills
• Experience in using traffic simulation packages
• Commitment to working across disciplines
• Publications in peer-reviewed conferences and journals
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Initiative and capacity to develop a research project autonomously
Postdoc 2:
This position is meant to cover the Urban Geography part of the project. More specifically, the successful candidate will focus on:
(a) the conceptual and methodological development of the project,
(b) two large-scale surveys, and
(c) an in-depth scenario building exercise related to future adoption rates of shared autonomous cars.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in geography, urban planning, urban design, architecture, sociology, or a related area and will have:
• Excellent research skills in survey, scenario building and foresight methodologies
• Experience of mapping urban areas with programmes such as GIS or CAD software
• Commitment to working across disciplines
• Experience of independent fieldwork
• Experience of database management
• Published in peer-reviewed journals
• Presented papers at academic conferences
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Initiative and capacity to develop a research project autonomously
