Job: Researcher on Intelligent Transport Systems

The Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute, in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University, is hiring a researcher to work on novel sensing techniques for intelligent transport systems, as part of the “SINAIS” project.

About the project:
SINAIS is a project funded by the Portuguese National Science Foundation under the framework of the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program. This is a 3-year research project leaded by Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute at the University of Madeira in a consortium that involves Carnegie Mellon University, the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, the Portuguese Catholic University and several companies and government agencies. About the post:
The role requires a background in Computer Science, Mathematics or Transport Engineering. Responsibilities include capturing individual and aggregate data on people’s mobility across a city, and working in close collaboration with the public transport authority in Madeira on analyzing public transportation patterns. The post will also involve close collaboration with other researchers working on the project on the development of interactive prototypes relating to transport and energy consumption.

  • Start date: March 1st 2011 (negotiable).
  • Duration: 18 months
  • Location of work: Funchal, Madeira, Portugal.
  • Eligibility: All nationalities, must hold a first degree in a relevant subject.
  • Salary: 980 Euros per month tax free
