PhD project title: I-PLAN: Intelligent PersonaL Activity-travel plaNner
This doctoral research project aims to develop a framework for travel information and decision support systems able to learn, understand and exploit the links determining the activity-travel chain of individual travellers and of different travellers connected by e.g. joint activities. These systems will collect and make use of data obtained by different personalized information services (smartphones, electronic agendas, digital travel diaries) and from transportation data (traffic information, Public Transport scheduling and real-time info, sharing services) to offer efficient travel alternatives dynamically and based on personal preferences and contexts.
The new methodology is conceived to develop a real personal mobility assistant that will be used and tested by the staff and students of the University of Luxembourg (UL) to organize the daily scheduling of activities and travels when their workplace will be relocated to the new campus of Belval, in the south of Luxembourg. The PhD research should demonstrate to develop novel learning and feedback mechanisms able to assist the users in finding the optimal activity-travel choices, and at the same time drive them towards more sustainable travel options.
