The Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in Lisbon is currently launching a scholarship under the research project “Express – Exploration of Portugal’s High Speed Rail and Economic Development Strategy Solutions” (MIT/SET/0023/2009), co-developed by the Instituto Superior Técnico and MIT, and sponsored by the national research funds through FCT/MCTES (PIDDAC) and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the Operational Agenda for Competitiveness Factors – COMPETE.

Among other things the project aims to model High Speed Rail Impacts both at a regional and at a local level. IST is looking for a student to work in a simulation framework that will incorporate both the models that are currently being developed to measure the impacts at regional and at local level. This scholarship is aimed at a student with a master degree and has an initial duration of 6 months, which could be prolonged up to 1 year. It could be a good starting point to later apply successfully to our PhD program in Transport Systems, which is included in the MIT Portugal Program.
