Tenure track faculty positions in transportation and infrastructure systems at UC Davis

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Davis invites applications for two tenure track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level in areas of civil and environmental infrastructure systems engineering. One of these positions will focus on applicants with a strong quantitative/systems background and outstanding domain knowledge in surface, air and/or maritime transportation. Preference for this first position will be given to candidates who integrate travel demand and behavior modeling research with smart infrastructure, “big data,” information technology, and sustainable cities, using integrated systems approaches.

Candidates are sought for a second position for which the holder will be engaged in innovative research on the frontiers of fundamental infrastructure systems engineering. The challenges of rebuilding our infrastructure are becoming increasingly complex due to the interdependence and dynamic interaction of its components, and the complexity in the factors that influence these systems such as natural and anthropogenic hazards, climate change, population growth, urbanization/land use change, energy availability, and increasing budgetary constraints. Preference will be given to candidates who pursue not only infrastructure rebuilding and re-engineering but also the infrastructure engineering science for novel approaches to modern challenges such as climate change, carbon cycling, pollutions and populations, water supply, and resources management.

Candidates must have an earned PhD degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering (or a closely related discipline). The successful candidate(s) will be expected to develop a strong, independent research program centered on infrastructure sustainability, with collaborations within the department and across the campus. This theme leverages established strengths in environmental, geotechnical, structural, transportation and water resources engineering. Candidates with promise of innovative research in any of these areas or interdisciplinary research between these and other related disciplines are especially attractive. The candidate’s teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses and mentoring in one or more of these areas.

Interested candidates should submit all materials via the web-based, online submission system which can be accessed via the following links:

Transportation position
Infrastructure Systems position (with emphasis on Water Resources Systems)

Required materials include a CV, research and teaching statements, up to three sample publications, and names and contact information of at least five references. Inquiries should be directed to:
Professor Sashi Kunnath, Chair
Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
University of California
One Shields Avenue
Davis, CA 95616

The position is open until filled, but to ensure full consideration, applications must be received by October 30, 2013.
