The Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences provides leading, international research and education. Innovation and sustainability are central themes. Research addresses societal issues. Research and education are closely interwoven. The faculty consists of the Departments of Structural Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Transport & Planning, Water Management and Geotechnology.
The Department of Transport and Planning at CiTG focuses on the design, planning and operation of transport systems, addressing road transport and public, passenger and freight transport systems. The section comprises some 60 staff members, of which 40 are employed on a temporary basis.
Within the department, three themes are distinguished: (1) Transport demand and supply and corresponding transport concepts, focusing on the analysis, modelling and prediction of travel patterns as a function of transport demand characteristics, logistic processes and capital investment schemes; (2) Design of transport networks and infrastructure for multimodal transport systems, focusing on the topology and geometric design of transport infrastructure; (3) The management of traffic flows, in particular measures to improve traffic efficiency in transport systems at both a local and network level.
Job description
You are jointly responsible for education and research in the Transport and Planning section. You are expected to conduct education and research in the fields of: (1) Robust transport networks and transport infrastructure (TN&TI) in order to accommodate changing transport flows; (2) Geometric design of roads (pedestrian, cycling, cars and public transport) and railroads; (3) Sustainable network and interface design methodologies; (4) Infrastructure planning. You will significantly expand the research programme through the acquisition of major research grants from industry and scientific foundations, and by attracting high-level MSc and PhD students. In addition, you will establish your own research programme within the general mission of the department.
You will teach courses at the BSc and MSc levels and supervise PhD students.
Requirements
You have a holistic view on the design of TN&TI enabling a visible, active and constructive contribution to the design of TN&TI in practice as well as actively contributing to the discussion on the planning of TN&TI. You will take an active and initiating role in national and international research in the field of design of TN&TI. You have a track record of publications in renowned scientific journals and have been successful in acquiring external research funding. Furthermore, you have educational experience in TN&TI subjects, as well as in supervising MSc students and PhD researchers. Finally, you have a clear vision and entrepreneurial and leadership skills, and you focus on results and quality.
Conditions of employment
This position has a commitment of 0,7 to 1,0 FTE. It is initially offered with a temporary contract for five years with the intention of converting this to permanent employment. The salary is minimally based on scale H2, but depending on experience, the salary may be increased to a maximum of € 8,622 (salary H1) per month gross.
